This November we in East-Central Illinois, Vermilion and Champaign County, & Danville are indeed fortunate to have another opportunity to be represented again by our own Senator Judy Myers, a local resident.

In the last election in 2002 we wrote our comments (below left) on a special webpage about missing the opportunity for this representation by only 572 votes, we concluded that it could be "a decade" or more before we might ever be represented by a Danville Senator in Springfield.

Now special circumstances make Judy's re-election possible just a few years later

From Our Commentary after the 2002 election..

"Senator Myers lost the district wide election by 572 votes. Any one Ward's registered voters in DANVILLE ALONE could have re-elected Senator Myers WITH THE VOTES NOT CAST. Are you in this count?"

We, in our Danville Area HAD have an opportunity Tuesday March 19th to vote in the primary election to retain as candidates two very important assets to our community. Senator Judy Myers and Supreme Court Justice Rita Garman are both seeking to be retained in their respective elected offices.

Justice Garman won in the primary, with heavy support in Champaign County. CONGRATULATIONS Rita!

Senator Myers lost the district wide election by 572 votes. Any one Ward's registered voters in DANVILLE ALONE could have re-elected Senator Myers WITH THE VOTES NOT CAST. Are you in this count? Judy you have our gratitude for the fine Job the past five years, and the hard work you, Mel, and your staff did. Thanks to all that did vote...

IT COULD BE A DECADE BEFORE OUR DANVILLE AREA HAS A SENATE SEAT AGAIN

REELECT SENATOR JUDY MYERS

It is rare that a second chance for all of us should come so soon and we urge all our area voters to make a special effort to vote in this election - return one of our own to Springfield.
Don't let history repeat itself - Don't vote party - Vote wise!

Judy's website says:

In 1997, Judy took her energy to Springfield after being named 53rd District State Senator following the death of popular Senator Babe Woodyard. She served from 1997 to 2002, establishing a strong record of service as a defender of both her constituents and common-sense government.

In the Senate, Judy worked for low tax, pro-growth policies aimed at enhancing the jobs climate and bringing economic opportunity to our area. She maintained high ratings from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and National Federation of Independent Business, and received the "Jobs Defender" award from the Employment Law Council for her solid record of supporting pro-jobs legislation.

Illinois farmers were also high on Judy's agenda. As a member of the Agriculture Committee, she led efforts to promote Illinois farmers and the use of ethanol, and fought to give local farmers a leg up in the global marketplace. The Illinois Farm Bureau named her a "Friend of Agriculture" for her work on behalf of area farmers.

As a former teacher, education was the issue nearest to Judy's heart. She fought to make schools the number one budget priority, and worked to protect the interests of area colleges, including the University of Illinois, Parkland, Eastern Illinois University, Lake Land and Danville Area Community College. Judy's efforts in support of Illinois schools led Region 8 of the Illinois Education Association to name her a "Friend of Education."

Judy - On the Issues in 2006
Debt and Borrowing: During the past three years, state government has more than doubled the state's indebtedness to fund new spending. To pay for it, they handed the check to our children and grandchildren. This means taxpayers 20 years down the road will be responsible for billions of dollars of debt. As State Senator, I will fight these irresponsible policies. Springfield needs to stop asking future generations to foot the bill for today's problems
